contemporary Oz art at the MCA
22 September - 27 November 2005
MCA
Interesting Times, curated by Russell Storer with the assistance of Keith Munro, MCA Curator of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Programs, takes a thematic approach to a major exhibition of Australian art which aims to profile the range and diversity of current practice. The exhibition focuses on how artists address social and political ideas through their work. In these uncertain times, many artists are questioning their role in society and how art represents and affects people’s daily lives. Artists included in this exhibition have a sustained practice, working for at least a decade in painting, sculpture, photography, installation, video and other forms of new media.
Interesting Times follows on from the Meridian exhibition, held at the MCA in 2002-2003. It will be accompanied by a major publication which will contextualize the artists' work with a series of commissioned essays.
Artists: John Barbour, Robert Boynes, Janet Burchill & Jennifer McCamley, Adam Cullen, Deborah Kelly, Neil Emmerson, Merilyn Fairskye, George Gittoes, Pat Hoffie, Shaun Kirby, Ruark Lewis, Ricky Maynard, Miriam Stannage, Madonna Staunton, Freddie Timms, Richard Woldendorp
