2005 Sydney Art on Paper Fair Symposium

**** RITUAL OR CELEBRATION? CONTESTING THE ROLE OF ARTS FESTIVALS

Museums & Galleries NSW and Sydney Art on Paper Fair present the
2005 Sydney
Art on Paper Fair Symposium
addressing the geographic impacts of recurring arts events, their traditional
meanings, challenges and their future in Australia and abroad.

This symposium reflects on the explosion of recurring arts events in
Australia and around the world over the last 40 years. Keynote speakers and
panellists will explore current philosophical and practical questions about
the development, purposes and successful delivery of such events, addressing
topics including: Manifesta Phenomenon!, The Arts Festival, Cultural Tourism
and The Art Fair.

Chair: Craig Judd (Coordinating Curator, Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery)
Facilitator: Andrea Stretton (Arts and Literary Journalist and Interviewer)
Speakers: Hedwig Fijen (Art Historian, Curator and Founding Director of
Manifesta, European Biennial of Contemporary Art), Lindy Hume (Artistic
Director, Perth International Arts Festival), David Watt (Director of
Edinburgh Printmakers Studio + Gallery), Jonah Jones (Director of Jonah
Jones + Associates) and Lex Marinos OAM (Actor, Director, Radio Commentator,
Producer and Festival Director).

Cost: full-day $90/ full-day concession $60 (includes admission to the
