ART FORUM BERLIN - The International Fair for Contemporary Art is the opener of the autumn season again in late September. In its ideal setting, the elegant daylight halls 18-20 of Berlin's Exhibition Grounds, the fairs provides art lovers, curators, artists, collectors and critics from around the globe with a captivating overview of new tendencies in the current art production.
121 galleries from 22 countries will show a high-quality selection of new work by their represented artists. Participating exhibitors come from Europe, Israel, North- and Central America as well as Australia. With its concise selection of galleries, the eleventh ART FORUM BERLIN promises to be a particularly fascinating new edition that surprises with its freshness and actuality.
BIG CITY LAB is the title of ART FORUM BERLIN’s special exhibition which is being curated by Friederike Nymphius from Berlin. This year the show deals with the metropolitan myth as both positive and negative visions of modernity. BIG CITY LAB takes up actual currents of art which regard the city as laboratory and as a place of freedom and progress, where new forms and structures emerge. BIG CITY LAB gives an outlook upon the city as a microcosm in its diversity between traditional and new strategies. More than 40 artists will show their work on 2000 m2 adjacent to the galleries’ halls. In addition to painting, photographic and graphic work, installations, sculptures, wall drawings and video work will be on view. BIG CITY LAB also offers artists the possibility to show especially conceived site-specific and temporary projects at the fair.
But there is even more, the city will be overflowing with a plenitude of exhibitions. ART FORUM BERLIN will be accompanied by a first-class program of events with many exclusive receptions, openings and inspiring exhibitions to which you are kindly invited.
Parallel to the fair Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart will present the solo show of The Atlas GROUP / Walid Raad.
Martin-Gropius-Bau opens an extensive Rebecca Horn retrospective, Kuenstlerhaus Bethanien’s group show asks What is Modern Art? and KW Institute for Contemporary Art will host the exhibition Absent without Leave.
