Andy and Oz - NGA

Andy and Oz: parallel visions is the international event to coincide with the National Gallery of Australia’s silver anniversary, marking twenty-five years since the Gallery first opened its doors to the public. A joint initiative between the National Gallery and The Andy Warhol Museum, the exhibition is also taking place in the year that marks twenty years since Warhol’s untimely death. The initial proposal for the show was to select works from the National Gallery’s collection considering the influence of Warhol on Australian artists. This presented some difficulties. Some artists in the national collection clearly have stronger links with Warhol than others. Yet some of the less expected parallels are as intriguing. Therefore, in the selection process with Thomas Sokolowski, Director of The Andy Warhol Museum, the idea of establishing links with Warhol’s art evolved laterally in terms of shared ideas and ways of working, differences of opinion, snapshots of pivotal connections and parallel visions, to enable lively ‘conversations’ between artists’ works to occur.

Impressionist Prints - NGA

Degas’ world: the rage for change is an exhibition of European prints from the National Gallery of Australia’s collection, opens in association with the major exhibition Degas: master of French art.

Featuring prints from the National Gallery of Australia’s very distinguished International Print collection, Degas’ world includes works by some of the late nineteenth century’s most famous artists: Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Mary Cassat, Paul Signac and Pierre Bonnard among others. These artists also exhibited in the revolutionary Impressionist exhibitions between 1874 and 1886 of which Degas was a key instigator. In addition, some of their most influential precursors, such as Camille Corot and Honoré Daumier, are highlighted.

Fair Use images

The Digital Images Collections Wiki is a resource of Free- and Fair-Use digital image collections that are available for anyone to use for personal or educational purposes. The main goals of the project are to provide an image gathering tool for the art history students and faculty of Wellesley College and to supplement the growing visual resources collection of that institution. The wiki was created by Hollin Elizabeth Pagos (MLS student, Simmons College) during a summer 2007 internship in the Visual Resources department of Wellesley College. The project was created in wiki format with the hope that users will continue to add their own bookmarked fair-use galleries and the resource will continue to grow beyond the input of its creator.

The purpose of this project was to collect image galleries that can be used freely for non-profit educational purposes. Some of the websites included, however, have certain restrictions and user requests, such as preferred citing or number of images used. It is the user's responsibility to make sure image use conforms to the policies of the specific gallery.
